Simile - using 'as' or 'like' to describe something.

Metaphor - something used, or regarded as being used, to represent something else.

Alliteration -the commencement of two or more words of a word group with the same letter.

Oxymoron - placing two words next to each other that either have an opposite meaning or are opposing words i.e. "living dead".

Onomatopoeia -a word that imitates or creates a sound within the poem i.e. 'hiss, slap and pop'.

Language - the system of linguistic signs or symbols considered in the abstract.


Tone - the feeling of poem, how the poem is read and how te reader portrays the sounds and feelings of the poem.

Diction - the usage of language.

Mood - a category of the verb or verbal inflections that expresses semantic and grammatical differences.
